From Building Scan to H2K — EnergyIntelligence workflow illustration

Collecting building data and preparing files for energy modeling has always been one of the most time-consuming parts of an energy advisor's workflow. Site visits, manual notes, transferring measurements, and finally rebuilding everything again inside modeling software can easily introduce errors and waste valuable time.

With the EnergyIntelligence platform, that workflow becomes much simpler.

In this short walkthrough, we demonstrate how an advisor can go from a 3D building scan to a ready-to-use H2K file in just a few steps.

Step 1: Capture the Building with Room Scans 📱

Using the Energyi mobile app, energy advisors can scan rooms during the site visit.

The scan automatically detects structural components and building elements such as:

  • Walls
  • Windows
  • Doors
  • Appliances
  • Floor areas

Instead of writing measurements manually, the system generates a 3D spatial model of the space.

💡 Key Takeaway

The advisor walks away from the site visit with structured digital data already captured — no manual notes required.

Step 2: Review and Annotate the Model 🧱

Once the scan is uploaded to the platform, the building model can be reviewed directly in the EI interface.

Advisors can:

  • Rotate and inspect the 3D model
  • Identify detected components across walls, windows, and doors
  • Add annotations or corrections where needed
  • Adjust wall types or structural elements
  • Review automatically calculated metrics such as floor area and wall area

If deeper editing is needed, the model can also be opened directly in the built-in CAD editing environment. This makes it easy to refine building geometry before moving to simulation.

Step 3: Select What Data Goes to H2K ⚙️

One of the most useful features is the ability to control what building data gets exported.

Instead of manually recreating the building model inside HOT2000, advisors can simply choose the fields that should be transferred. Examples include:

  • Wall assemblies
  • Window placements
  • Doors
  • Floor areas
  • Building geometry

✅ Clean Workflow

This selective export keeps the workflow clean and prevents unnecessary rework.

Step 4: Export to H2K 🚀

Finally, the platform generates an H2K file ready for import into HOT2000.

With one click, the building geometry and selected data load into the modeling environment, allowing the advisor to immediately begin the energy simulation and rating process.

⏱️ Time Saved

What used to require multiple manual steps — and an entire afternoon — can now be done in minutes.

Why This Matters for Energy Advisors

For many advisors, the bottleneck in energy modeling is not the simulation itself, but the data preparation.

EnergyIntelligence helps reduce that friction by:

  • Digitizing building data collection — no more manual notes or tape measures
  • Automatically generating spatial models — structured 3D data from day one
  • Allowing quick CAD adjustments — refine geometry directly in the browser
  • Exporting structured files directly to H2K — one click to HOT2000

The result is less time spent rebuilding geometry and more time focused on analysis and recommendations.
